🔒 Privacy First
WherePut stores all data locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on our servers.
1. Introduction
WherePut ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our desktop application.
WherePut is designed with privacy as a core principle. The application operates entirely locally on your device, and we have no access to your data.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be clear about what we do not collect:
- File contents, names, or metadata
- Clipboard contents
- Screenshots or images
- Browser history or URLs
- Application usage data
- Personal information
- Location data
- Device identifiers (except for license validation)
3. Data Stored Locally
WherePut stores the following information locally on your device (in SQLite database and configuration files):
- Artifact metadata: Filenames, file paths, timestamps, file sizes
- Context information: Active application name when files were created/downloaded
- Clipboard history: Text content you've copied (stored locally only)
- Settings: Your preferences and application configuration
- License information: Your license key and validation status
All this data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third parties.
4. License Validation
When you activate a Pro license, the following information is sent to LemonSqueezy (our payment processor) for validation:
- Your license key
- A hashed device identifier (for activation limits)
This is the only network communication WherePut performs, and it only occurs when you manually activate a license. No other data is ever transmitted.
5. Third-Party Services
WherePut uses the following third-party services:
- LemonSqueezy: For payment processing and license validation. Their privacy policy can be found at lemonsqueezy.com/privacy
We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising services of any kind.
6. System Permissions
WherePut requires certain system permissions to function:
- Accessibility (macOS): To detect which application is active when you download files or take screenshots. We only read the application name, nothing else.
- File System: To monitor your Downloads and Desktop folders for new files. We only read file metadata, not file contents.
- Clipboard: To maintain clipboard history. Content is stored locally only.
